Il primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu ha dichiarato che Israele sta estendendo un'importante operazione militare nella Cisgiordania occupata, mentre le tensioni aumentano in vista dello scambio di ostaggi con Hamas previsto per sabato.
Il signor Netanyahu, parlando nel campo profughi di Tulkarm, in rovina e in gran parte vuoto, nel nord della Cisgiordania occupata, ha attirato in particolare l'attenzione su un sospetto attacco terroristico "estremamente grave" avvenuto giovedì, in cui tre autobus vuoti sono esplosi in un sobborgo di Tel Aviv.

Israeli PM says army expanding major operation in occupied West Bank
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is expanding a major military operation in the occupied West Bank, as tensions rise ahead of a hostage swap with Hamas scheduled for Saturday.
Mr Netanyahu, speaking in the ruined and largely empty Tulkarm refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank, drew particular attention to an “extremely serious” suspected terror attack on Thursday, in which three empty buses exploded in a Tel Aviv suburb.
Mr Netanyahu’s trip comes as Israeli forces continue an operation dubbed the “Iron Wall” that has displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians and destroyed vast amounts of property and infrastructure, fueling fears that Israel is seeking to replicate its war on Gaza in the West Bank. Israel has said it is launching the operation to combat terrorism.
“We have significantly increased our activity over the past year,” Mr Netanyahu told troops at the scene. "We are entering terrorist strongholds, leveling entire roads and eliminating camps
Four refugee camps in the north of the region, Jenin, Tulkarm, Nur Shams and El Far'a, have been hit the hardest. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said the Jenin camp was "almost completely emptied of residents". The agency also reported that Israeli forces were increasingly using "advanced weaponry and militarized tactics", while 17 Israeli air strikes were recorded between February 3 and 9.
The United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said 51 Palestinians had been killed in the operation as of Thursday. The Palestinian Health Ministry announced another death on Friday: a 13-year-old girl, Omar Amouri, who was shot by Israeli gunfire in the Jenin camp. The International Rescue Committee said in a statement on Thursday that at least 224 children had been killed in the Occupied West Bank since January 2023.
Mr Netanyahu's speech from Tulkarem came shortly after Defense Minister Israel Katz visited to issue similar warnings and promise intensified Israeli operations. "We are at war with extremist Islamic terrorism and we will win, here, in Gaza and everywhere," Mr Katz said.
The comments come as a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, struck in January, reaches a critical point. Six living Israeli hostages will be released on Saturday in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, the latest exchange of living Israeli hostages in the first phase of the three-phase deal.
The deal, widely supported by the Israeli public according to recent polls, has several high-profile opponents in Mr Netanyahu’s far-right coalition, who stepped up calls on Friday for Israel to return to the fighting in Gaza after Israeli medical officials said one of the four hostage bodies handed over by Hamas on Thursday was not that of Shiri Bibas.
Hamas said it would “examine these claims with the utmost seriousness.”
